Join us in Over-the-Rhine for Oktoberfest weekend!

The Brewery District, in conjunction with the Christian Moerlein Brewing Company, is proud to present a weekend of tours and history of Over-the-Rhine.

Tours include:

  • The original "Prohibition Resistance Tours" that will take you through the Brewery District and into three pre-Prohibition breweries, including massive lagering cellars and tunnels 30 feet below the street.

  • A special Tour that that visits places and explains events that author Michael D. Morgan writes about in his new book about early OTR history, "Over-the-Rhine: When Beer Was King".

  • FREE tours of the future Christian Moerlein Brewery, including plans and renderings of the new Lager House to be located on the riverfront.

Other events include:

  • Presentation and book signing by author Michael Morgan, author of the new book "Over-the-Rhine: When Beer was King" (copies will be available for purchase at the hall).

  • ......

  • Presentation and book signing by author Don Heinrich Tolzmann, author of "German-Americana: Selected Essays", as well as the upcoming translation of "Gustaf Tafel's "The Cincinnati Germans in the Civil War" (to be released in October) and "Over-the-Rhine Tour Guide: Cincinnati's Historic German District and Environs" (to be released at Bockfest 2011).


  • Preview trailer and details of the upcoming documentary "The Cincinnati Beer Story".


  • Beer steins and local brewery and historical items will be displayed and available for sale. Members of Thoroughbred Stein Verein can advise you on authentic German Oktoberfest steins and mugs as well as offer free appraisals. Over 150 antique steins will be offered for sale, including many authentic German brewery mugs. Local Brewery and Over-the-Rhine memorabilia will also be available for sale. Collectors will be available to answer your questions on the great treasures from Cincinnati's brewing history.

  • Artist Jim Effler will have original Moerlein artwork and Bockfest posters available for sale and signing, including past Bockfest posters.

There will be plenty of cold Moerlein and Hudepohl beer available, including the Fifth and Vine Oktoberfest Marzen and the first chance to try the new Hudepohl 125th Anniversery Amber Lager!

There will also be brats and burgers fresh off the grill from Cafe de Wheels.

All tours will start and end at the new location of the Christian Moerlein Brewing Company, located at 1621 Moore Street. The venue will be open from 9A-6P on Saturday September 18 and 10:30A-6P on Sunday September 19, and is FREE and open to the public. There will be a FREE shuttle running to Oktoberfest Zinzinnati all weekend long. The downtown shuttle stop will be Arnold's Bar and Grill, located at 210 East Eigth Street. There is plenty of public parking available and Oktoberfest Zinzinnati is just two blocks away. The shuttle will run from 9A-6P on Saturday and 11A-6P on Sunday, and is FREE.
