Prohibition Resistance Tour 2010 - Oktoberfest

September 18-19, 2010

Join us Oktoberfest weekend as we explore Cincinnati's rich brewing heritage, both above and below ground.

Each tour will start at the future home of the Christian Moerlein Brewing Company, where participants will learn about the origins of Over-the-Rhine and the Brewery District. We'll walk next door to the Crown Brewery (also known as the Schmidt Brothers Brewery), where we will venture down to the lagering cellars to learn how Prohibition impacted Over-the-Rhine. Here we will travel through the recently reopened tunnel underneath McMicken Avenue that once connected the separate parts of the brewery.

Once back to the surface, we'll journey down McMicken Avenue, "Brewer's Boulevard", past the site of the Schaller Brewery, the original Hudephol Brewery, and the Lafayette Brewery. Turning down Vine Street, we'll hear about the hundreds of bars, saloons, and biergartens that lined the street in the 1800's. When we reach the Kauffman Brewery, we'll journey 30' below the street to the massive lagering cellars.

After learning about the brewing process, we'll travel underneath Hamer Street through the soon to be reopened tunnel connecting parts of the Kauffman Brewery. This tunnel, which has been sealed off for over 80 years, will lead us to more of the lagering cellars as well as the malt house of the Kauffman Brewery, which is becoming the new home of the Christian Moerlein Brewing Company. We will learn about the history of this historic brewery, as well as its future with a tour of the future brewery.

At the end of the Tour, participants will receive beer tickets to continue the Oktoberfest festivities at the Moerlein Brewery, where we'll have beer and brats available as well as other historic tours!

All tours are the same, will be approximately 2 and half hours, and will start and end at the new Christian Moerlein Brewery (located at 1621 Moore Street).
